The James Webb Space Telescope, a collaboration between NASA, the Canadian Space Agency, and the European Space Agency, has unveiled its first five full-color photos and spectrographic data. On July 12, 2022, a live event webcast from the agency's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland, gave the public its first glimpse at the mission's complete capabilities.

The occasion highlighted these goals:
- Carina Nebula: A scene covered in sparkling stars and celestial cliffs
- Stephan's Quintet: A massive mosaic with an apparent cluster of five galaxies
Southern Ring Nebula: A nebula with rings of gas and dust extending outward in all directions for thousands of years.
