Heavy Duty College podcast

Directly from Arthur Jones: once you understand INTENSITY
this is the key to
-understanding exercise science &
-perfect application necessary for real progress
The volume you do in a workout is a NEGATIVE
WHY?
every set performed causes deeper
INROAD to recovery ability
-for every set: more of body's
limited reserve of resources is USED
AT THE ATTEMPT TO RECOVER or:
compensate for exhaustion...no muscle growth

INROAD: like digging hole...1 set = small hole ; 2nd set =. deeper...
-for every set, hole gets deeper & body has to expend or
waster more resources IN RECOVERY to overcome the INROAD
-leaving that much less to build muscle
Question: big difference bet. 1 & 2 sets?
YES--biggest mistake you could make
-from 1 to 2 is not 1 unit linear increase
-it is 100% increase in volume...
DOUBLES INROAD RECOVERY need
Even if second set is better stimulus
-nullified by doubling INROAD recovery
needs

"Greatest cause of lack of progress in muscle growth...
is OVERTRAINING"
-#1 reason bodybuilders fail to achieve their goals
"Since it is never considered in the field of bodybuilding,
I have to state it many times"
Volume training is promoted, while
not revealing that most leaders in
the field have to rely on PEDs"
