The first Black US defence secretary wound up his first trip to Africa, attempting to rally officials in Djibouti, Somalia, Kenya and Angola for more cooperation in security matters. Will his message wash, given the United States' disastrous history on the continent? Or does he think Africans suffer from amnesia? From assassinating revolutionary Pan-African leaders to murderous interventions to economic sabotage, the United States has contributed greatly to Africa's problems. Lloyd Austin, who once served on the board of directors of US weapons manufacturer and security contractor Raytheon, might just be worried that a breakout of peace in Africa will trim profits of the US military-industrial complex. With this trip being the first time a US official has visited Angola, African leaders need to be wary of this military salesman and his deadly hardware.
