Homemade Chicken Nihari Recipe | Full Desi Style recipe in Hindi
Chicken Nihari, a delightful and spicy chicken stew, boasts a unique blend of aromatic spices that make it a cherished dish in Pakistan, India, and Bangladesh. Typically savored with naan bread or rice, here's a simple way to prepare this flavorful dish at home:
Ingredients:
- 1 kg skinless chicken, cut into pieces
- 1/4 cup oil or ghee
- 2 finely chopped onions
- 2 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
- 2 tbsp Nihari masala (readily available or homemade¹)
- Salt to taste
- 6 cups water
- 1/4 cup wheat flour or plain flour
- 2 tbsp ghee or butter
- Chopped fresh coriander
- Sliced ginger
- Sliced green chillies
Method:
1. In a large pot over medium-high heat, heat the oil or ghee. Fry the onions until they turn a rich golden brown, then add the ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a few minutes.
2. Introduce the chicken pieces and Nihari masala to the pot, ensuring they are well-coated with the aromatic spices. Sprinkle in salt, add water, and bring the mixture to a boil. Reduce the heat and let it simmer for roughly an hour or until the chicken becomes tender.
3. In a separate small bowl, create a smooth paste by whisking the flour with some water. Gradually add this paste to the pot while stirring continuously to prevent any lumps from forming. This will thicken the gravy. Allow it to simmer for an additional 10 minutes on low heat.
4. In a small pan, heat ghee or butter, and briefly fry the red chilli powder. Drizzle this tempering over the Nihari.
5. Garnish your Nihari with coriander, ginger, and green chillies. Serve it piping hot alongside naan bread or rice.
