Date – Wednesday, October 4th, 2023 – St. Francis of Assisi

1. **In the summer of 1215:** St. Francis and a small group of friars were in Rome seeking approbation for his Rule. One night, during his prayers, he had a vision where Our Lord prepared to unleash terrible chastisements upon the world. His Most Holy Mother presented two men, St. Francis recognized himself as one of these apostles, but did not recognize the other.

2. **Next day:** In a church in Rome, an unknown person embraced Francis, saying, “You are my companion. We will work together, supporting one another toward the same end, and no one will prevail against us.” Francis recognized him as the other man from his vision, St. Dominic, who also had a similar vision.

3. **After the encounter:** Francis and Dominic attended a service at St. John the Lateran Basilica. A famous preacher, Fr. Angelo, announced that Francis and Dominic would be strong columns of the Church, seeing their future in a prophetic vision.

4. **End of the ceremony:** St. Angelo embraced Francis and Dominic, telling them the favors God had reserved for them. As they left the church, they met a leper begging, whom they blessed simultaneously, and he was cured.

5. **Significance of the meeting:** St. Francis and St. Dominic recognized each other through visions and embraced in a church in Rome. They admired each other's missions, balancing their similarities and differences, including their profound Marian devotions.

6. **Similarity in Marian devotion:** St. Francis was devoted to the Immaculate Conception, while St. Dominic was the apostle of the Rosary. Both orders' Marian devotions represented convergent lights, leading to the faithful's spiritual harmony.

7. **Difference in mission:** Dominicans converted through intellectual means, teaching philosophy, theology, and apologetics. Franciscans moved the will through zeal, considering Christ's Wounds, Passion, poverty, and sacrifice.

8. **Coronation of Our Lady:** The embrace of St. Francis and St. Dominic represented the union of their orders' missions. The presence of St. Angelo, a Carmelite preacher, completed the trio, adding martyrdom to the encounter's virtues.

9. **Symbolic healing of the leper:** The joint blessing by the three saints cured a leper, symbolizing the restoration of a Christendom becoming spiritually leprous, highlighting their counter-revolutionary action.

10. **15th century onwards:** Despite their efforts, the Revolution entered again with force. St. Francis' preventive counter-revolutionary action through humility, purity, and austerity slowed the collapse of Christendom, emphasizing the need to fight against the Revolution.

St. Francis of Assisi, pray for us!
