2023 ‘State of NASA’ Address from Administrator Bill Nelson-4K-NASA OFFICAL
Ladies and gentlemen,
Today, I am honored to present the State of NASA address for the year 2023, outlining our ambitious plans and initiatives that will shape the future of space exploration, scientific discovery, and our commitment to a sustainable and inclusive future.
Exploration of the Moon and Mars: Our journey to the Moon, through the Artemis program, continues to be a focal point of NASA's efforts. In 2023, we are advancing our plans to return astronauts to the lunar surface, this time with the goal of establishing a sustainable human presence. By leveraging the lunar Gateway and utilizing the Space Launch System (SLS) and Orion spacecraft, we are on track to put "boots on the Moon" and conduct vital research that will pave the way for future missions to Mars.
Mars Exploration: Our quest to explore Mars remains steadfast. With the Perseverance rover already on the Martian surface, we are making groundbreaking discoveries about the Red Planet's geology and potential habitability. In 2023, we will continue to support the rover's mission while preparing for future robotic missions, leading the way for human exploration of Mars in the decades to come.
Monitoring and Protecting Earth: NASA's commitment to Earth science remains unwavering. We are working diligently to study and monitor our home planet, addressing climate change, extreme weather events, and other environmental challenges. Our Earth-observing satellites, including those in the Earth Science Division, continue to provide valuable data that informs policy decisions and helps protect our planet.
Sustaining Leadership in Aviation and Aerospace Innovation: NASA is at the forefront of aviation and aerospace innovation. In 2023, we are partnering with industry leaders to develop the next generation of supersonic aircraft, electric propulsion systems, and sustainable aviation technologies. Our work will not only enhance the safety and efficiency of air travel but also reduce its environmental impact.
Economic Growth and Promoting Equity: NASA recognizes the importance of economic growth and equitable access to opportunities. We are committed to fostering partnerships with commercial entities, small businesses, and entrepreneurs to stimulate innovation and create jobs. Moreover, we are dedicated to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion within our agency and across the nation, ensuring that everyone has the chance to contribute to the future of space exploration.
Inspiring the Next Generation: One of our most critical missions is inspiring the next generation of explorers. Through educational programs, outreach efforts, and partnerships with schools and universities, we aim to ignite the passion for space and science in young minds. By nurturing this curiosity, we are preparing the leaders and innovators who will drive humanity's future exploration endeavors.
In conclusion, NASA's state in 2023 is one of determination and ambition. We are pushing the boundaries of human knowledge and technological capability, all in the pursuit of advancing space exploration, protecting our planet, fostering innovation, and ensuring that our endeavors are inclusive and equitable. Together, we will inspire the next generation to reach for the stars and benefit humanity as a whole. Thank you, and Godspeed to our future explorations.
