Nov. 18, 1963 - President Kennedy delivered a brief address today to the United Steelworkers of America at the International Inn in Tampa Bay, Fla. He told the cheering steelworkers that the same people who fought against the progressive legislation of the 1930s were now fighting new legislation such as Medicare, aid to higher education, and civil rights. Prior to his speech, he received gifts: a humidor of cigars and a doll for his daughter Caroline.
