The UK’s iconic Sycamore Gap tree was cut down in what police deemed a ‘deliberate act of vandalism.’ The tree stood next to Hadrian’s Wall for hundreds of years. It appeared in the 1991 movie ‘Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves’ next to the section of the Roman wall where Kevin Costner performed a set of lines.
A 16-year-old boy has been arrested, but officials are still asking for people with any information to come forward.
‘I'm devastated that the famous Sycamore is gone. That tree was ours. It was an iconic North East landmark standing tall in our beautiful Northumberland,’ said Kim McGuinness, Northumbria police and crime commissioner. ‘I am incandescent that this looks like a deliberate act of vandalism.
