The Hollywood icon hailed the accuracy of the first Terminator installment's portrayal of AI's potentially nightmarish properties at The Academy Museum of Motion Picture's 'An Evening with Arnold Schwarzenegger' event. "Today, everyone is frightened of [AI], of where this is gonna go," Schwarzenegger said. "And in this movie, in Terminator, we talk about the machines becoming self-aware and they take over." He added that scientists had barely "scratched the surface" of AI-powered technology in 1984 when Terminator came out, however, the sci-fi blockbuster's vision of AI has since "become a reality."

However, it's the dramatic increase in AI's capability that has caught the attention of most Terminator devotees, including franchise co-creator James Cameron. Cameron recently revealed that he's developing a new Terminator movie inspired by the current discussion around the pros and cons of AI. The Oscar-winning filmmaker added that the project won't arrive any time soon, as he's eager to see how AI technology develops before finalizing the screenplay. Cameron also declined to confirm whether his Terminator film will be a prequel, sequel or reboot, nor did he say whether he intended to invite Schwarzenegger to take part.
