NASA astronaut Frank Rubio and Roscosmos cosmonauts Sergei Prokopyev and Dmitri Petelin delivered farewell remarks ahead of the hatch closure of the Soyuz MS-23 spacecraft on September 27. Following the hatch closure, the vehicle undocked from the International Space Station’s Prichal module and returned to Earth a few hours later, making a parachute-assisted landing on the steppe of Kazakhstan. During his mission, Rubio achieved a significant milestone by setting a new record for the longest single spaceflight for a U.S. astronaut, spending 371 consecutive days living and working aboard the microgravity laboratory. This mission aimed to advance scientific knowledge and demonstrate new technologies for future human and robotic exploration missions, aligning with NASA’s Moon and Mars exploration strategy, including lunar missions through NASA’s Artemis program.
