In this video, we’re going to talk about what causes cracked heels and dry feet.

The cause of cracked heels is a vitamin B3 deficiency. Another term for a vitamin B3 deficiency is pellagra.

There are different levels of pellagra, from very mild to severe.

One of the first signs of pellagra has to do with your gastrointestinal tract. In particular, you may experience diarrhea and gut inflammation.

Other symptoms of vitamin B3 (niacin) deficiency are:
• Sensitivity to light
• Cracked skin
• Rough skin
• Odor sensitivity
• Dizziness with sudden movements
• Desire to quarrel
• Black tongue

The best sources of vitamin B3 are:
• Turkey
• Chicken
• Pork
• Mushrooms
• Fish
• Grass-fed beef
• Seeds
• Avocado

The causes of a vitamin B3 deficiency can include:
• A poor diet
• Poor gastrointestinal health (most common)
• Alcoholism
• Antibiotics
• Excessive corn consumption

In summary, clean up your diet and get plenty of niacin-rich foods to help clear up cracked heels. Without replenishing your vitamin B3 levels, lotion and other skin products likely won’t help with cracked heels and dry feet.
