In this video, we’re going to talk about fermented foods on a keto diet. Let’s take a look at the following popular fermented foods:
•Yogurt
•Kefir
•Kombucha tea
•Kimchi
•Sauerkraut
•Miso soup
•Tempeh
•Pickles
Yogurt, kefir, and kombucha are often very high in sugar and can sometimes kick you out of ketosis. If you choose to eat these foods, look for options without added sugars.
Fermented vegetables like kimchi, sauerkraut, and pickles are typically keto-friendly. Sauerkraut is rich in vitamin C, excellent for digestion, and even better than taking probiotics! When you consume fermented vegetables, you don’t need to eat very large quantities to reap the health benefits.
Soy-based fermented foods like miso and tempeh are also keto-friendly. Look for organic, non-GMO miso and tempeh. Soy products can increase estrogen, so they may not be the best option for some people.
Fermented foods support a healthy digestive system by helping to feed the good bacteria in your small intestine. By supporting your gut bacteria, you can maximize the absorption of important nutrients.
