Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is a third-person action-adventure video game developed and published by Ubisoft. It was first released in 2003 for the PlayStation 2 console and later for the Nintendo GameCube, Xbox and PC, also receiving a 2D conversion for the Game Boy Advance portable and cell phone. The game is the continuation of the Prince of Persia series, which was created by Jordan Mechner in 1989 with the title Prince of Persia.[citation needed] The Sands of Time, initially developed by Ubisoft Montreal, managed to transfer and expand the gameplay mechanics from the first game to the generation of 3D games successively, while a previous attempt, made by The Learning Company in 1999, titled Prince of Persia 3D, failed to meet critical acceptance standards.
The game focuses on the story of the Prince of Persia who, deceived by the Vizier, releases the Sands of Time ("Sands of Time") in the palace of the sultan, a friend of his father, King Shahraman. The Sands of Time transform all of the palace's inhabitants into sand monsters, placing them under the Vizier's control. With the help of Princess Farah, the daughter of the Maharaja of India, the player must control the Prince and use his acrobatic skills and the Dagger of Time to cross all areas of the palace full of traps and undo your mistake.[citation needed]
The Sands of Time was praised for its visual design, balanced gameplay mechanics, and intriguing storyline. On the rating aggregator sites Metacritic and Game Rankings, the game received an average rating of 91%, at the same time as it was awarded by various video game publications. The game's success resulted in the production and release of two sequels: Prince of Persia: Warrior Within and Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones, in 2004 and 2005, respectively,[citation needed] and a film. A Remake was announced for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series The Remake trailer, which was released in mid-2020, received mixed to negative receptions from the public, which made Ubisoft adopt this change in the game's development team.
