Dr. Berg talks about the best way to check on ketones when you are first starting out doing ketosis. Ketones are the byproduct of fat fuel and the body like ketones better than glucose because it is a more efficient fuel.

Three Different Methods with Three Different Types of Ketones
1. Urine (Acetoactetate)
Pros: It is very inexpensive compared to the two methods. And you can have the ability to test yourself through the day and determine what bumps you out of ketosis with foods.
Cons:
• The problem with this is when you become efficient and you adapt where your body is using more ketones, you are going to see less and fewer ketones showing in the urine.
• If you drink too much water, it will dilute the urine and it will affect your results.

2. Blood (Beta-Hydroxybutyrate)
Pros: This is the most accurate way to check ketones. You will test the type of ketone that is the most abundant ketone in the body.
Cons: Expensive

3. Breath (Acetone)
Pros: You can buy this one time and you can test it over and over again.
Cons: It is expensive. And over time when you do this, you can see less of these specific ketones simply because your body is utilizing this fuel source more and more.
