In this video, Dr. Berg talks about muscle growth, growth hormone and carbohydrates. Growth hormone is produced by the pituitary. It works in the liver but it is unique because it doesn’t just go to the liver to influence the hormone called insulin-like growth factor but it can also go into all of your cells because it has a lot of different effects.

1. Enhances Amino Acid Transport through the cells.
2. Enhances Ribosomes (a little machine in the cells that makes certain proteins from amino acids)
3. Enhances DNA going into the RNA.
4. Decreases Catabolism – a state where you are breaking down protein in the body.
5. Enhances Fat Utilization that occurs several hours later
6. Decreases Rate of Glucose Utilization
7. Creates a Ketogenic Effect

Do you need carbs to make protein?
“Growth hormone fails to cause growth in animals lacking a pancreas.” You do need normal amounts of insulin to make proteins in the body. Growth hormone stimulates the release of insulin.
