0:00 Introduction: Do low-carb diets cause heart problems?
0:23 A deeper look at the study

Recently, low-carb diets have been linked to atrial fibrillation (Afib). Atrial fibrillation is a problem with the heart. Let's break this down.

The study that links low-carb diets, like the keto diet, and atrial fibrillation has a couple of issues.

First off, the study was an observational study, which is the least credible type of study you can do.

The study showed that a low-carb diet may increase your risk of Afib by 16 to 18 percent. However, the researcher who led the study stated that while the research shows an association, it can't prove cause and effect.

Another big problem with this study is how they define a low-carb diet. Their definition is a diet that consists of 44.8 percent of the total calories being carbohydrates. This isn't a low-carb diet.

When you consume a ketogenic diet, only five percent of your total calories should be carbohydrates.
