I was asked, is it okay to drink coffee if you have non-alcoholic fatty liver disease? Actually, coffee has a lot of phytonutrients that are beneficial for your liver. So coffee itself isn’t bad. What’s bad about coffee is if it’s not organic. If it’s not organic it’s filled with pesticides, herbicides, and insecticides.
You want to avoid non-organic coffee because the liver is all about detoxifying chemicals and you don’t want to add them back into your body. They’re very oxidizing, which means they create inflammation and lead to cirrhosis.
There are a couple types of fatty liver disease. One is the kind that comes from drinking too much alcohol. Then there’s fatty liver not from alcohol. A variant is fatty liver plus inflammation. This is the kind that leads to cirrhosis.
There are several ways you can determine if you have a fatty liver. One is by ultrasound. Another is by biopsy, although that’s invasive. An MRI is better than a biopsy but overall an ultrasound is the best diagnostic tool.
If you look up fatty liver, you’ll discover that it’s one factor of what’s called metabolic syndrome or syndrome X. It’s characterized by:
●High triglycerides
●Low HDL, the so-called good cholesterol
●Central obesity, also called visceral fat
●High blood pressure
●High blood sugar
Along with fatty liver, all of these are symptoms of high insulin. If you have a fatty liver, that fat isn’t coming from eating fat but from consuming carbohydrates, trans fats, and even oils like corn and soy that’s GMO.
So, I recommend lowering your carbs, especially fructose which goes straight to the liver to be metabolized. Take choline, a powder that will strip the fat off your liver. Egg yolks are full of choline. Taking betaine hydrochloride will also strip away the fat from your liver.
Eat a lot of greens (vegetables). Intermittent fasting keeps your insulin low, and your body will use the fat from your liver as fuel. When you eat too many carbs, the glucose gets converted to fat. This is how you develop non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.
