Why would someone have either very dry hair or hair that’s excessively oily? And what can you do to remedy your unwanted hair condition? (You can also apply this knowledge to your skin.)
In your scalp and skin there’s a gland called the sebaceous gland. It’s responsible for releasing an oil called sebum which helps protect the surface of your body. Sebum contains fats, lipids, triglycerides, cholesterol, vitamins, and even phytonutrients.
If your hair is too dry this usually is caused by a deficiency of fat soluble vitamins, especially vitamin A (retinol) which helps regulate the sebaceous gland. Vitamin D and vitamin E are also involved.
You could be consuming these vitamins but maybe you don’t have a gallbladder any more, or you don’t have enough bile. Or perhaps your liver is fatty or you have a problem releasing bile.
One of the best remedies for a fat soluble vitamin deficiency is cod liver oil. Be sure to use virgin cod liver oil. If you don’t have a gallbladder or you’re low in bile, you can take purified bile salts. Check out the link below for more information. You can get vitamin E from leafy greens, nuts, and seeds.
If you drink alcohol, have insulin resistance because you’re diabetic or pre-diabetic, this can interfere with your absorption of fat soluble vitamins.
But if your hair is too oily, it could be low zinc. Zinc is one of the most important trace minerals yet 2.2 billion people are zinc deficient. Zinc helps decrease your androgens and DHT, which is a powerful form of testosterone that can cause the sebaceous glands to produce more oil.
High levels of insulin can also spike your androgens. This is why people with PCOS have oily skin and acne. So you want to get on healthy keto and intermittent fasting. Click below to download the sheet and get on this diet.
A zinc deficiency can be caused by consuming too many grains, alcohol, antibiotics, or digestive problems. Or you could have low hydrochloric acid; you can tell if you have heartburn or acid reflux. Seafood oysters, red meat, and liver are great sources of zinc.
