Minecraft and the Bible - Genesis 40-42

In this Let's Play series, we'll be reading the story of Joseph from the Bible while playing Minecraft! We'll follow along as Joseph interprets dreams for Pharaoh's officials and is promoted to second-in-command in Egypt. We'll also see how God uses Joseph to save Egypt from famine.

*as an additional side note, this is my first experience with Minecraft, so this Let's Play will probably move a bit slow.

Genesis 40: Joseph is in prison, where he interprets the dreams of two other prisoners: Pharaoh's cupbearer and baker. The cupbearer's dream foretells that he will be reinstated to his position at Pharaoh's court, and the baker's dream foretells that he will be executed. Three days later, Pharaoh's cupbearer is indeed reinstated, and the baker is executed.

Joseph asks the cupbearer to remember him to Pharaoh, but the cupbearer forgets about him.

Genesis 41: Two years later, Pharaoh has two dreams that trouble him. He summons all the magicians and wise men in Egypt, but none of them can interpret his dreams. The cupbearer remembers Joseph and tells Pharaoh about him.

Pharaoh summons Joseph, and Joseph interprets his dreams. Pharaoh's first dream foretells seven years of abundance, followed by seven years of famine. Joseph's second dream confirms the interpretation of the first dream.

Pharaoh is impressed with Joseph's wisdom, and he appoints him second-in-command in Egypt. Joseph oversees the storage of food during the years of abundance, and he distributes the food during the years of famine.

Genesis 42: A famine strikes Canaan, and Jacob sends his sons to Egypt to buy food. Ten of Jacob's sons arrive in Egypt, but they do not recognize Joseph, who is now a powerful official. Joseph recognizes his brothers, but he does not reveal his identity to them.

Joseph tests his brothers to see if they have changed since they sold him into slavery. He accuses them of being spies, and he throws one of them, Simeon, into prison. He tells the other brothers that they can return to Canaan, but they must bring Benjamin, their youngest brother, back with them.

The brothers are afraid that Joseph is punishing them for selling him into slavery. They return to Canaan and tell their father what has happened. Jacob is reluctant to let Benjamin go to Egypt, but he eventually agrees.
