Farzad Felfelian Childhood Memory

Here is the story of my miserable trip to the colosseum of Rome in the summer of 2011.

My name is Farzad Felfelian and my story is about regrets of the past

Before I get how I visited the beautiful country of Italy and specifically the colosseum. I must give the back story.

Late in 2010 this game called Assassins Creed Brotherhood was released. By the time I got to play it and finish it was spring of 2011. This game took place in 1500 Rome and as part of the game you got to explore the beautiful ancient city of Rome. All its underground tunnels, hidden passageways, castles and of course the colosseum. I remember fondly the times I would get stuck on difficult levels and had to call in my older brother to progress through it.

Fast forward to August of 2011 and our parents had planned a family vacation to Italy. From the water taxis in Venice to the leaning tower of Pisa and finishing off at Rome. Rome was last and with temperatures of 30 degrees Celsius, 11-year-old me was not too happy about visiting the colosseum.

I recall being ungrateful and wanting to stay at the air-conditioned hotel and arguing extensively that I had already known the inner workings of the colosseum and that visiting it would be a waste of time.

Looking back, I wish I had put my stubbornness aside and been more present at this great marvel of ancient architecture. I’m certain that I’ll visit the colosseum again, only this time I will be present.

Thanks for listening to my story and I hope you won’t make the same mistake of not being present.
