Capital One Venture Miles are some of the best travel rewards in the industry because there are so many ways to use them (often times quite easily, too)! While redeeming Capital One Miles for maximum value requires a more advanced technique of strategically using Capital One transfer partners, this tutorial will focus on the easy method: the Cover Travel Purchases feature (know more casually as the Capital One Purchase Eraser).

HOW TO REDEEM CAPITAL ONE REWARDS FOR TRAVEL (“Capital One Purchase Eraser”)
Valid for the following cards:
- Capital One VentureOne card
- Capital One Venture card
- Capital One Venture X card

1. Log into your Capital One account
2. Select your Capital One Venture Card
3. Click the View Rewards button
4. Choose the Cover Travel Purchases option
5. View your eligible travel purchases from the past 90 days
6. Select 1 or more, select how many miles you want to use, then click on Continue
7. Review the redemption details & click on Confirm to complete

a. You can use the Capital One Cover Travel Purchases / Purchase Eraser feature for eligible travel purchases, including:
- airlines
- hotels
- rail lines
- car rental agencies
- limousine services
- bus lines

b. Eligible travel purchase must have occurred within the past 90 days.

c. If you don’t have enough miles to cover the full cost, you can still redeem what you have to cover a portion of the amount. Then, if you then earn more miles later, you can then go back and redeem them to cover the rest of the balance from the same transaction provided it still occurred less than 90 days ago.

d. Your miles will be worth 1¢ ($0.01) each towards travel redemptions. Examples:
- 10,000 miles = $100
- 75,000 miles = $750
- 100,000 miles = $1,000

e. You can make redemptions online via desktop / laptop or via the Capital One mobile app

CAPITAL ONE COVER TRAVEL PURCHASES vs. BOOK A TRIP

- The Cover Travel Purchases feature allows you to redeem your Capital One Venture miles retroactively, that is, after the purchase posts to your account. The reason why this is my preferred way to redeem Capital One Venture Miles is because get value on both ends. That is, you EARN MILES when you charge a travel purchase to your card and then RECEIVE A CASH STATEMENT CREDIT afterwards when you redeem. Also, nearly all types of travel can be covered, even if you didn’t book through the Capital One Travel portal.

- The Book A Trip feature allows you to redeem Capital One Venture Miles during the booking process to reduce the price of your trip up front. While nice, this means a smaller amount will be charged to your credit card (or no amount at all if you have enough miles to cover the full cost). Translation: you won’t earn as many miles prior to your redemption. Furthermore, the Capital One Travel portal currently only offers flights, hotels, and car rentals, so the redemption options are more limited.
