attempt at doing a "live" instrumental cover of the title track off Trousdale's new album, Out Of My Mind (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pCSFWNIpEek)

the whole album is really good overall, but this song in particular stood out to me the first time I heard it; the melody of the chorus is haunting, in an absolutely lovely way, and the chord progression of the prechorus really amps up the energy leading into that hook.

i tried to do a fairly straightforward cover, attempting to capture the dynamic swells, the rise and falls of intensity, and it was a really fun template to follow, allowing for just a smidge of chaos towards the end. i had tried to record trumpet for the breakdown and ending as well, but it was pretty weak and didn't make the cut. i simply don't have the lip muscles anymore. i put a slight chorus filter on the trumpet parts to help make the tone more palatable. i used a looper pedal with the keyboards for a couple sections, which was risky since I was playing to a steady click (138 bpm), but it worked out for the most part.

in hindsight, it would have been clever to change my bandanas to match the color-coding that the Trousdale trio utilizes in their attire and album art. dang hindsight.

this is my swan song for playing the trumpet I think. onto the saxophone next! hopefully ;)
