The American Express Blue Business Plus Card is one of the best business credit cards for new small businesses for a number of reasons.

First, it has a $0 annual fee, so it won’t cost you anything to keep it open year after year, and that makes it a great long-term keeper card to build credit history.

Second, it earns 2X Amex Membership Rewards points on ALL purchases, up to $50,000 of spend per year (then 1X). Most credit cards earn 1X - 1.5X points outside of any other specific bonus categories, so to have 2X as the base earning rate is fantastic. Think of it like a 2% cash back card, but that 2% return is only realized for certain types of travel redemptions instead of cash (note: if you’re looking for a business credit card that earns cash back, check out the Amex Blue Business Cash Card instead).

Third, it’s a really straightforward credit card. You don’t have to worry about rewards categories that rotate, earn at different rates, require activation, etc. If you like simplicity, this card delivers.

Fourth, the Amex Blue Business Plus is eligible for Amex Offers. These are card-linked offers (i.e. digital coupons) that you can add to your card to earn extra rewards (e.g. more points, discounts, statement credits) at select merchants. For example, you may see offers like: earn 15% back on purchases at FedEx Office up to a certain cap, $5 off at select gas stations when you spend $30 or more, a $60 statement credit at Marriott hotels after spending $300, etc. Many of these offers can be quite useful and can add up to hundreds (or thousands) of additional savings per year.

Fifth, the points you earn from this card (Amex Membership Rewards points, or MR points for short) can be combined with the points earned from other Amex credit cards, provided they too earn the same MR points. This means if you also have the Amex Platinum Card, the Amex Gold Card, the Amex Green Card, the Amex Everyday Card, etc., all the points earned across all these cards can be pooled together into 1 point balance (and this includes both personal and business credit cards).
