A psychologically disturbed woman is admitted to a private sanitarium by the man she witnessed commit murder.

Above and beyond the typical features of the horror film genre, critic Bosley Crowther of The New York Times took particular offense to the film's treatment of Price as a psychiatrist who tries to get rid of his patient, a woman who has lost her mind after witness the murder his own doctor committed. Coming in the wake of World War II, in which so many people suffered shock and could benefit from treating their anxieties, Crowther called on the "critical observer to protest in clear tones" the film's "social disservice" in its promotion of "apprehension against the treatment of nervous disorders." Jonathan Malcolm Lampley wrote in Women in Vincent Price's Horror Movies that his role in this film "foreshadows the mad doctors and scientists that Price would often portray in his later career."
