The Human Family Band - 'Prospect Street'

Within my neighbourhood
flowers grow in mud
there’s space within this place
it just needs filling up
on the lottery we pick pot luck
but some they’ve given up
the church is dying
there’s people crying
there’s tea within a cup
as people make their way
through this sad decade
with heads turned down
to the ground
they’ll find a place to stay
where the swimming pool is full
of children after school
and neighbours speak
in Arabic and Greek
and everything's just cool
but at night the shutters come down
on my part of town
it’s not black nor white
I don’t believe that tripe
it’s poverty and it’s cruel
whilst others were born to win
what could be there sin
I won’t stereotype
the good and right
nor the places they have been
welcome to Prospect Street
where I meet
the good the bad
happy ‘n’ sad
and their memories shine like jewels.
in my Radford nights
where sun and moon collide
and there in blue
dreams come true
for the me and you
I really do love you
really do love you
it’s true
