God Moves in a Mysterious Way

God moves in a mysterious way
His wonders to perform.
He plants his footsteps in the sea
And rides upon the storm.

Ye fearful saints, fresh courage take;
The clouds you so much dread
Are big with mercy and shall break
In blessings on your head.

Creature, trust Him though the path you’re on,
Leads through a veil of darkness.
Soon the Glory, promised just beyond, will burst forth
And you’ll bear witness.

His purposes will ripen fast,
Unfolding ev'ry hour.
The bud may have a bitter taste,
But sweet will be the flow'r.

Blind unbelief is sure to err
And scan his work in vain.
God is his own interpreter,
And he will make it plain.

Creature, trust Him though the path you’re on,
Leads through a veil of darkness.
Soon the Glory, promised just beyond, will burst forth
And you’ll bear witness.

Though the Narrow Gate seems far, the night seems long,
And your past is fraught and checkered,
Oh the way, the gate, your life, indeed your song,
Is Christ, Your Lord and Shepherd

Written by William Cowper, Hadyn Jones / Music (Verses Scottish Psalter) (Chorus Hadyn Jones)
