The Creek House: A Stunning Design Amidst Paros' Wheat Fields

The Creek is a summer home spanning approximately 380 m2, situated a 20-minute drive away from Paros' port. The design of this project was carried out in an agricultural region where wheat and rye are grown. As a result, during the summer months, the landscape is dominated by a vast expanse of golden, plowed wheat, creating a homogeneous view. However, this uniformity is interrupted by a linear cluster of rocks that creates a sudden change in elevation in the center of the plots. Surrounded by dense vegetation, this cluster of high rocks serves as the focal point for the design, around which the residence is developed. The placement of the orthogonal volumes in front of the natural rocky formation creates hybrid spaces, including a main protected inner courtyard that serves as the entrance to the residence, as well as areas for outdoor activities such as dining, lounging, and barbecuing. A creek, acting as a linear water feature, encircles the rocky complex along its entire length, accentuating its rugged geometry. Combined with lush planting, the water creates a microclimate of coolness, forming an oasis amidst the dry fields. To provide shelter, the cluster of rocks, building volumes, and courtyards are encompassed by a lightweight structure made of wood and reed infill. This structure casts alternating patterns of shade, following the movement of the sun from East to West. The geometry of the structure harmoniously unifies the spaces of the residence, visually and functionally. Additionally, the choice of reed and its placement serves as a clear reference to the rural character of the area, particularly the wheat cultivation areas, facilitating the seamless integration of the new construction into the surrounding landscape.
