Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) and his party MORENA's resounding electoral victory in Mexico in 2018 marked a seismic shift in the country's political landscape, challenging the dominance of neoliberal parties and ushering in a left-populist presidency. AMLO's presidency sought to move Mexico away from neoliberalism towards nationalist-developmentalist capitalism. Key criteria for assessing his administration include the reinstatement of class politics, the effort to reestablish the power of a hollowed-out state apparatus, and breaking from the corruption-laden economic paradigm of neoliberalism.
