U.S. national security advisor Jake Sullivan said during a White House briefing on Thursday that the U.S. is in touch with both Canada and India, after Prime Minister Justin Trudeau alleged that Indian government agents had links to the murder of a Sikh separatist leader in British Columbia.

Sullivan told reporters that he “firmly” rejected the idea of a wedge between the U.S. and Canada on this issue.

Earlier in the day, Trudeau called on India to cooperate with an investigation into the murder and said Canada would not release its evidence.

Trudeau first said on Monday that Ottawa had “credible” evidence linking Indian government agents to the murder of Hardeep Singh Nijjar in June, prompting an angry reaction from New Delhi. Nijjar, 45, was a Canadian citizen.
