The OSIRIS-REx Asteroid Sample Is Coming Home!

The OSIRIS-REx mission, launched on September 8, 2016, is a NASA spacecraft mission with the primary objective of studying and collecting a sample from the near-Earth asteroid Bennu. The mission aims to learn more about the origins of our solar system by analyzing the asteroid's composition and studying its history. By returning a sample of regolith (soil and rock) from Bennu to Earth, scientists hope to gain insights into the early solar system's materials and processes, potentially shedding light on the origins of life on Earth and the potential threat posed by asteroids to our planet. On September 24th 2023, the sample returns to Earth!
