Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili, in his speech at the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly, drew attention to the problems of territorial integrity that his country faces in its difficult geography. Garibashvili emphasised that despite these challenges, Georgia continues its development efforts with determination. The Georgian Prime Minister recalled that Russia's aggression against Georgia in 2008 put the country in a difficult period and displaced hundreds of thousands of people. He also noted that 20 per cent of Georgia's territory is still under Russian occupation. Garibashvili's bold appeal called on the international community to put pressure on Russia to withdraw its troops from Georgia and return to the Geneva negotiations. The Georgian Prime Minister also called for unity and solidarity among the people of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, which have unilaterally declared their independence from Georgia and are supported by Russia. Garibashvili said that this unity could ensure long-term stability and thus realise its full potential. In his speech, Garibashvili also emphasised Georgia's economic growth and stated that the country has been growing economically impressively in recent years. Garibashvili reminded that the Ukraine-Russia War is still ongoing and stated that they continue to support the Ukrainian people and send humanitarian aid. Emphasising that Georgia's basic philosophy is "preventing war and ensuring peace", Garibashvili reiterated its commitment to contribute to the maintenance of global peace. Finally, Garibashvili stated that Georgia's accession to the European Union is a geopolitical priority and emphasised that Georgia is successfully pursuing the EU integration process and implementing the necessary reforms.
