Despite shocking weather conditions, 43 long-finned pilot whales (39 according to the official count which excludes the sick, very young and an unborn foetus) were driven ashore by boats at Hvannasund, Faroe Islands this afternoon. With winds of 25 knots and gusts of nearly 40 knots it took nearly 3 hours from when the dolphins were first spotted to them being slaughtered, with local news outlets raising concerns about insufficient people on the shore the dolphins swiftly.

Hvannasund has already seen 54 dolphins killed this year (long-finned pilot whales and Atlantic white-sided dolphins) for a population of just over 400 people. It would seem that locals have no intention of following the Faroese guidelines of just 250g per month, otherwise this community would have taken just TWO pilot whales this year.
