Dash cam video shows crashing vehicle, narrowly missing South Carolina deputy during chase

Dashcam video taken during a South Carolina deputy pursuit shows a suspect vehicle crashing into a utility pole and narrowly missing a deputy in a median.

The video was taken Tuesday after a Dorchester County deputy tried to stop a vehicle for an expired registration, officials said.

They said the driver took off and evaded deputies several times as other deputies deployed stop sticks along the route.

One deputy, a traffic sergeant who had taken position by a power pole, was directly in line of the crash when the suspect's vehicle struck the power pole, causing it to break in half and the vehicle to roll multiple times.

One of those times, it appeared, from the angle of the dashcam, to roll over the traffic sergeant in the median.

The traffic sergeant suffered numerous injuries and was taken by ambulance to a hospital, where he was treated and released.

He is expected to fully recover.

Deputies were able to take the man into custody at the scene.

He was identified as Robert Quentin Hill, 54, of Summerville.

Hill was taken to the hospital with minor injuries and later released.

He has been charged with attempted murder, failure to stop for blue lights and malicious damage of more than $10,000 to electrical systems, among other citations.

Warrants showed Hill has a previous conviction for failing to stop for blue lights.

Hill is being held on bonds totaling $50,ooo, officials said.
