"The Graceful Stripes: Exploring the Enchanting World of the Leopard Shark"

Otherwise known as the Zebra shark in the northern hemisphere, this shark is one of the most beautiful creatures to inhabit Australian waters. How similar their patterns are to the land dwelling leopards is incredible, and to think this distinct pattern evolved separately both above and below the water is even more incredible, but what really blows my mind is that these sharks most likely evolved this striking gold and black pattern long before the big cat leopards ever existed!

This along with the fact they have no sharp teeth, can breathe without swimming, can asexually reproduce and regularly get put into tonic by moving remoras make them one of my favourite sharks to share the water with!

Here on the east coast of Australia we are very fortunate to have such a healthy population of this vulnerable species. 🐆
