Black holes are indeed fascinating cosmic objects. If you're referring to a specific recent event involving a massive black hole shredding a passing star, I'm not aware of any such event, as my knowledge only goes up until September 2021. However, black holes are known to exhibit powerful gravitational forces that can tear apart nearby objects, including stars, in a phenomenon called tidal disruption events. NASA and other space agencies often study such events to better understand the behavior of black holes and their effects on the surrounding space.
