BEHIND THE DROUGHT Part 1: Lake Las Vegas "The Island" Lake Mead Water Level Update August 2022

"Behind The Drought" looks to examine the causes of the Great Western water shortage, other than reasons of the drought itself. Come along on a multi-part series as we start in our home state of Nevada and venture out to other regions to discover where exactly all the Colorado River water is going!

Part 1 of the series starts off at the upscale Italia themed village of Lake Las Vegas, complete with it's own 300+ acre artificial lake! Lake Las Vegas has been rated by the Southern Nevada Water District as the biggest commercial water consumer in the Las Vegas Valley valley two years in a row now (2020 & 2021). This accolade earns them a top spot in our "Behind the Drought" special. We will explore the entrepenuers, real estate developers, and investors that created this community from a desert wash in the 60's and see how it's changed over the years.

We will also take a very quick look at the current USBR water supply report, dated August 15th, where the last few weeks of monsoon weather has temporarily raised Lake Mead about 2". Perhaps more notably though, the "7 day release" from Hoover Dam has also been steadily decreasing over several weeks allowing more water to be retained.
