Protecting your eyes during the solar eclipse

The countdown is on for the Aug. 21 solar eclipse. And eye doctors here are well aware. “We do anticipate we will see an increase in people complaining about issues with vision afterward,” says Dr. Matthew Manry, a retina specialist at UC Health. Manry said suggestions that you can view the eclipse through the perforation of a Ritz cracker or a pinhole in a piece of paper are damaging because you'd still have a column of ultraviolet light that could burn the retina. Manry said the only safe way to watch the solar eclipse is with safety glasses that have an ISO standard.
