Audient vs. Behringer | What sounds best to YOU?

What's the difference between a quite cheap mixer and a lot more expensive 8 channel preamp? In terms of pure sound? I find out in this non-scientific friendly shoot-out between a Behringer Xenyx X2222 mixer and a Audient ASP800.

The 24bit Wav-files can be found here:

The way I do this is I sequence kick, snare, hats, bass, pads and synth through MIDI and run each output through the 8 channels of the ASP800 and into 8 separate tracks in the DAW.
I then run each sound sources through the Behringer 2 at a time and record all 8 sounds in 4 passes. No EQ, compression or effects used.

Then all the tracks are mixed in the DAW exactly the same, levels adjusted to be equal. Then the two versions start their lives.

The vocals are recorded separately, live, and used on top.

Gear used:
Sequential TOM kick and snare | Programmed pattern | Sync from sequencer
Roland TR-626 Hats | Programmed pattern | Sync from sequencer
BIT01 Bass
Roland Alpha Juno 2 Pad
Akai S612 Steel Bells
Sequencer: Nuendo - also providing MIDI sync for the Drum machines

Growing up I listened to so much synth-pop and it's only natural that my own music takes inspiration from many of the acts I loved back then. I still love them and listen to them!

Howard Jones, Depeche Mode, Pet Shop Boys, New Order, Erasure, Thompson Twins, Tears for Fears, The Human League, Propaganda. FGTH, Ultravox, OMD, Eurythmics, Duran Duran, Giorgio Moroder, Jean Michel Jarre, Jan Hammer, Alphaville, A-ha as well as loads of artists doing what is now called Italo Disco. And many more great acts like Nik Kershaw, Spandau Ballet, Wham, Dire Straits ++
