This is a difficult topic for many of us and I want to give you some mindset tips and different ways to think about it so you can bust through the guilt.
As a working parent myself, I know how hard it can be dealing with working parent guilt. I have a 16 year old daughter and I have always worked since she was born, so I know the guilt feeling.
Either it's feeling guilty that I am not spending enough time with my daughter, or feeling guilty because I am working too much or just guilty that I'm taking time for my own self-care. So everything I'm sharing with you in this video is what I practice myself to shift out of working parent guilt.
So here are 4 things I want you to do to help shift out of your working parent guilt:
1. Ask yourself: How does feeling guilty help me? (your honest answer to this question will help you to begin to bust through the guilt.)
2. Recognize that you are not your thoughts!! You can talk back to your brain when it offers you a thought that is not helpful -- and in the video, I share with you what I say to my brain when it makes me feel guilty for working and not seeing my daughter enough.
3. Remember that you don't have unlimited energy. Feeling guilty just drains your energy, giving you less of it to spend with your kids or on your work -- or taking care of yourself!
I also want to remind you that you don't only impact people with what you do or say - but with your energy! Think about that for a second, what kind of energy do you want to bring to your kids and family? What kind of energy do you want to bring to your work?
4. Make time for your own self care because you cannot give what you don't have! When you fuel yourself, you can show up more fully for people you love, including your kids, and bring your awesome capacity to your work!
