You cannot become all God intends for you to become unless you pursue what God intends for you to pursue.
Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowd. (Matthew 14:22 NIV)
After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. Later that night, he was there alone, and the boat was already a considerable distance from land, buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it. (Matthew 14:23-24 NIV)
Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost,” they said, and cried out in fear. But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.” (Matthew 14:25-27 NIV)
This event only makes sense when we realize Jesus’ goal is to reveal who He truly is—God in the flesh.
“He alone stretches out the heavens and treads on the waves of the sea.” (Job 9:8 NIV)
“Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.” “Come,” he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. (Matthew 14:28-29 NIV)
If you want to walk on the water, you’ve got to get out of the boat. If you want to make an eternal difference in your life and those around you—you’ll have to take some calculated risks for God even when you’re afraid.
But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!” Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt? “And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down. Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.” (Matthew 14:30-33 NIV)
1. Jesus walks on water.
2. Peter walks on water.
3. The calming of the storm.
-This is the first time they have addressed Jesus as the Son of God.
-God’s bucket list for your life probably includes fewer things to do and more things to become.
-Faith requires Stepping out of the boat.
-When you follow Jesus, He will do incredible things through you.
“Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins and the gift of the Holy Spirit.” (Acts 2:38 NIV)
