On November 16, 2022, NASA launched the Artemis I mission, an uncrewed test flight of the Space Launch System (SLS) rocket and Orion spacecraft. This mission marked the beginning of a new era of space exploration, with the goal of returning humans to the Moon and beyond.

The SLS rocket is the most powerful rocket ever built, and it carried the Orion spacecraft on a 26-day journey to the Moon. Orion orbited the Moon for several days, before returning to Earth and splashing down in the Pacific Ocean on December 11, 2022.

Artemis I was a success, demonstrating the capabilities of the SLS rocket and Orion spacecraft. This mission paves the way for future Artemis missions, including Artemis II, which will carry astronauts around the Moon, and Artemis III, which will land the first woman and the first person of color on the Moon.
