There are plenty of different types of garden string lights, some have just a simple waterproof cable connecting the LED lights but more long lasting weather protection is to encapsulate the lighting wire inside a fully waterproof clear tube, as is the case here. The problem with encapsulated wiring is that often it is thick and unwieldy as well as being more costly to manufacture. These problems seem to have been avoided here as this budget price set features a thin and flexible encapsulation.

In the box you get the 22m string set, a 6.7 x 6.7 cm combined solar panel and control box, a 22 cm ground spike mount and a short but well. printed user guide. Build quality seems fine for the price and nothing looks likely to fail anytime soon.

The solar panel box contains a rechargeable AAA battery which takes around 6-8 hours of good sunlight to recharge enough to run up to twelve hours overnight. Of course, in winter the run time will be significantly reduced.

The main selling points for this set are firstly the length, at 22 metres with 200 LED beads this is the longest set I have yet tried. Also, the lights are held inside a narrow and very flexible tube, unlike any other I have tried. These lights can be positioned almost any way you like, are lightweight and simple to install. The tube, of course, is fully waterproof but the Solar Panel assembly is IP67, which means it should be fine in all weathers but do not immerse it in water.

The lights are warm white, good and bright, and have eight operating modes - combination, waveform, sequence, slow light, chase/flash, slow fading, blink/flash, and steady on. The lights are controlled through the combined solar panel and control box with buttons for power and mode selection. Take note that there is no indication of the current settings on the panel and it is impossible to tell if the set is switched off or if the battery is depleted, this can be important as the battery will only charge when the button is in the On position.

If you need a super long and easy to install string light set for your garden then I doubt you will find better than this for just less than £14.
