23rd In our series the Epistle of 2nd Peter

I. The Essential Question ‘What is man?’ - Psalm 8:3-9
* A. Evolution claims man is just a highly developed animal who was able to kill off all his competitors to become the dominant species on earth
* 1. You can readily find evidence of mankind acting as a beast - 2 Peter 2:12
* 2. How odd it is then that those who believe this lie want:
* a. To depopulate the planet as they see humans as pests who destroy the planet
* b. The elite, those who believe that they are more evolved humans, should therefore according to Evolution have a duty to kill off the less evolved
* B. The Bible gives us the truth about humanity
* 1. Made in God’s image unlike any of the other creatures He created - yet made lower than the angels - Psalm 8:5
* 2. Created by the One True God not evolved from inorganic matter - made for dominion - Psalm 8:6-8
* 3. Fallen into sin and therefore depraved in character, thought and habit - Romans 3:23
* a. Men can be redeemed by saving faith in Jesus 
* b. The redeemed when sanctified are restored to the humanity God originally intended

II. The Problem of Predators in the Church - 2 Peter 2:12-13
* A. Like ravenous wolves they pose a grave danger to the saints - Matthew 7:15-16
* 1. Sexual immorality is their game - Revelation 2:20-24
* 2. Their heart is deceitful -  Jeremiah 17:9
* B. The heart is what must be transformed - Luke 2:34-35
* 1. Darkened understanding = hardened heart
* 2. The solution is God’s Law in heart/mind - Hebrews 8:10
