'well, ok then.' (pronounced “well… sigh*... *exasperated ok then.”) is the musical project of Nate Schmold, a multi-disciplinary artist, musician, illustrator and game designer.

Founder of Neferiu Records from 2000-2013, Nate has been producing experimental electronic and hip hop music (as both Mantrakid and more recently as Ghost Cartridge) for the past 25 years. His sound and vocal style has always been heavily influenced by artists like Beck, Thom Yorke, Nick Drake, Portishead and Grouper.

For this new project, Nate puts down the synth laden glitchy beats and distorted raps and picks up… a classical guitar. Having taught himself to play since the pandemic began in early 2020, this EP—titled “open up soon”—earmarks his progress, both with the instrument and with the exploration of his voice.

With his guitar, a microphone and a few pedals, Nate has created a sound that is both nostalgic and dark, evoking a melancholic, introspective and dreamlike atmosphere. His covers of “Acrobat” by Angel Olsen and “Living Room” by Grouper sit comfortably among his original songwriting on the EP.
