Artist bringing smiles with her whimsical creations
Alison E. Kurek says she was practically born painting, adding "I've heard stories that I was painting walls in the middle of the night when I was little, my mother wasn't happy." Now she paints whenever she wants and the walls of her Kenmore home are covered with the results. Her self portraits prove that this artist has a sense of humor. One show's her holding her own amputated head. Alison says that was based on a reoccurring dream she had. She says she hopes that her artwork takes peoples minds off of some of the bad stuff in the world. Many of her pieces showcase pets with personality. She points out that "much of my work is based on cats." She has been inspired by her own cat Milo who she has used as a model in a number of her works. She just wrapped up her 25th appearance at the Allentown Arts Festival and is getting ready for the Elmwood Avenue Festival of the Arts at the end of August. You can check out some of her work at her website.
