Once, there lived a woodcutter in a village. He cut wood from the forest and sold it in the village to support his family. Everyday morning he goes to the forest and returns only at the late evening.

One day, as he was cutting a tree, his axe fell into a nearby lake. The poor man went after the axe and searched for the axe. But even after a good search, he could not find his weapon. At last, he burst into tears.

Listening to the woodcutters' sobs, an angel appeared before him. The angel asked him, “What happened to you my dear?” And the woodcutter narrated the entire story.

Listening to his story, the angel leaped into the lake and came up with a golden axe. “Is this your axe?” the angel asked.

“No, that’s not my axe,” the woodcutter replied.

The angel plunged again and came up with a silver axe. “Is this the one you are looking for?” the angel asked.

“No, that is also not mine,” and the woodcutter was once again in tears.

The angel returned to the water and came up with his iron axe. Seeing his iron axe, the woodcutter screamed, “Yes, that’s the one. That is my axe.” The angel was very happy about the woodcutter’s honesty. He gave the woodcutter all the three axes and blessed him with happiness.
