My first time homeless and its lessons

#homeless #prepping #nomad in todays video I talk about my first time being homeless. Becoming homeless isn’t one of those things where you wake up one morning and you’re sleeping under a bridge. Becoming homeless is a long process which I’ve become very familiar with over the years.

Homelessness starts with what some might consider a minor loss such as losing a job or taking time off work due to an injury. If you are financially insecure to handle bumps in the road like this, you are on the verge of being homeless.

For me, this time, it was the loss of my business through no fault of my own. I had spent 6 years building a stable business and all it took was a Black Swan event to wipe it out.The first time I became homeless it was a long process that took over a year. It first started with getting turned down for workman’s compensation which led to a series of bad choices made in youthful ignorance. Before I knew it I was sleeping in my mothers basement looking for work again, I even tried calling in favors that were owed to me.

Finally one day after going through the repeated cycle of ending up on a family members couch I decided it was time to stand on my own two feet and go homeless. This taught me a lesson, most people are attached to the comforts of being housed, that they will do and say anything to keep a roof over their head including burn bridges with friends and family. Fortunately at a young age I was able to get over my attachments to the comforts of modern society which would allow me to prosper over the years of homelessness I’ve experienced.

In my opinion the reason you see such craziness on the street from the homeless is because they have bought into the societal requirement that you’re supposed to have all thisstu#. Not having this stu# leads people into depression, drug use, and possibly the worsening of mental health conditions. The average individuals inability to relinquish attachment to material things will eventually be what leads someone to becoming homeless.

I have asked many hobo’s how they’ve ended up homeless and the story is mostly the same across the board. A person loses a job or deals with a major obstacle, then they end up couch sur$ng until they’ve burned those bridges, then public assistance is sought after until $nally there is nowhere to go but the streets. Once on the streets the individual will go into a fit of depression, make many attempts to find a job while being discriminated against, which then leads to a defeated attitude, sloth and the beginning ofa drug addiction.

In closing, most people think homelessness won’t happen to them. They think they’re secure intheir job and their $nances are in order, but that doesn’t make you immune it just means it will take you longer to get there. In my travels since October I have met a few wealthy or successful people who have lost everything due to the lock-down and pandemic, so don’t think you can avoid this just because you have money. Currently 15% of mortgages are variable, banks are collapsing, people are unable to get mortgage insurance due to insurance companies collapsing and the average American has maxed out their credit cards, so how long until they have no choice but to become homeless
