Nike's Message to Portland: Fix Your Crime or We Walk

After a long dance of "will they, won't they?", Nike's once-beloved community store at 2650 Northeast Martin Luther King Jr Boulevard in Portland has officially called it quits. Nike's closure announcement comes as a disappointing blow, but let's be honest - were we really surprised? In their whimsical pursuit to "reimagine" retail spaces, the real problem was pretty clear: rampant shoplifting and a dwindling police force unwilling or unable to address the issue. Mayor Ted's admirable yet questionable camaraderie with the "defund the police" agenda has led to a thin blue line that's essentially evaporated. With police numbers not adding up, the once-bustling Nike store, which became a magnet for theft, was left with no choice. Some might say it's karma for a city administration that, to be frank, has shown a remarkable knack for turning a blind eye to crime. So, Nike's official stance? "Supporting and uplifting", but with an unspoken "just not here."
