In "The Circus," the Tramp visits a circus and gets caught up in a series of mishaps and comedic situations. During one of the circus acts, a tightrope walker is injured and unable to perform. The circus owner, desperate to maintain the show, sees the Tramp and mistakenly believes he is the replacement tightrope walker.

Reluctantly, the Tramp is dressed in a tightrope walker's costume and sent up to the high wire. He is terrified and initially refuses to step onto the rope. However, after some encouragement and the realization that he has no choice, he tentatively takes his first steps on the tightrope.
