Communities across southern Alberta are about to see original Blackfoot names come back to life. A project aiming to resurrect Blackfoot names through the use of signage hopes the initiative will enrich the landscape, invite people to take an interest in the history of our region and move closer towards the spirit of reconciliation. Several economic development and tourism organizations, including SouthGrow Regional Initiative, Community Futures Lethbridge Region, Tourism Lethbridge, Alberta Southwest and Blood Tribe Social Development have partnered with Kanai Nation to fund the construction of the Blackfoot language signs.
The project will invite communities, businesses and institutions across the region to apply for up to $2,000 towards the cost of sign construction for their location.
